Children's Education
Children's Education takes a variety of forms at Immanuel. A key opportunity is Sunday School, which meets on Sundays during the program year. The children gather in the Sunday School area (lower level of the parish hall building) around 10:10, while adults go to church at 10:15. The children are brought over after the sermon and rejoin their family at the Peace and Announcements. The congregation continues with the Eucharist together. The Sunday School Administrator is Anne Greene.
Another opportunity is Children's Choir. Children generally rehearse after the 10:15 service, from approximately 11:30 to 12:15. They learn about the basics of singing, the meaning of the words in hymns and anthems, and they offer a hymn or anthem in church several times each year. The Children's Choir is led by Jen Newgent, Director of Music Ministries.
The Sunday School and Children's Choir work jointly for the Christmas Pageant, which is generally held the first or second Sunday after Christmas at the 10:15am service.
Other opportunities for Children's formation occur throughout the year with special services and events. Some recent and past events have included Outreach projects such as the Crop Walk and the Kidney Walk, as well as Confirmation Class and Retreat for teenagers.
